Conan, Kogoro, and Ran encounter Kyouko Takahata, who faints after learning her brother-in-law, Itsurou Soejima, died at her home. Police determine Soejima committed suicide by shooting a shotgun at the ceiling, causing a chandelier to crush him. Conan suspects murder and notes Takahata’s involvement in past alcoholism incidents that nearly killed Soejima. He tranquilizes Kogoro to present his deduction: Takahata lured the recovering alcoholic to her house with prepared alcohol and a shotgun. Evidence includes Takahata’s nail fragment found at the scene and her attempt to delete caller history. Takahata confesses, claiming Soejima abused her sister, who died because of him. Conan reveals a message on the sister’s phone proving she died of illness and loved Soejima, contradicting Takahata’s motive.
