Ran finds a necklace receipt in Kogoro's wallet, suspecting it is for Eri's birthday. She wins a luxury hotel raffle for her parents, prompting Eri to reschedule a client meeting there. Eri's client, Akiho Kokuba, arrives after fighting with her husband, Takehiko Kokuba, and falls asleep. Eri sends Takehiko to fetch Akiho and dines with her family. Upon returning, Eri is disappointed by Kogoro's lack of a gift and gets soaked by a soda can. After showering, she discovers Akiho dead in her room. Conan deduces the killer moved the bed to hide the body, waited for Eri to shower, then restored the scene. Police investigate alibis for Akiho's stalker, his mother, and her husband.
