Kogoro, Conan, Ran, and Sonoko attend a Rooster Festival where Ran and Sonoko seek love fortunes. Sonoko is robbed by a masked thief known as the Rooster Man, but Ran lets him escape due to her fortune. Later, a man named Shiro Masuko is stabbed by the thief and tells Conan the culprit is a saru, showing nine fingers. Conan examines the thief's backpack and finds stolen items. Police narrow the suspects to three after seeing the thief enter a bathroom. Ran provides a button from her earlier encounter to help identify the culprit among the suspects.
