The cracked-head corpse of Eiji Kadowaki is discovered in Yonehana Park. Eiji was a violent problem child who attacked his mother, Yasuko, leading to rumors that his brother Yuichi intervened. Inspector Megui suspects Yuichi, but he has an alibi. A suspicious man is identified as Takase, a former student of Yasuko, a retired elementary school teacher. Megui and his friends visit Takase to hear his account of events surrounding the Kadowaki family and the incident.
