Ep. 5: Ikari and Maniwa interrogate Makoto Kozuka, who views his attacks as liberating people from Gohma in a medieval RPG.

Ikari and Maniwa interrogate a boy known as Lil' Slugger, who is revealed to be an eighth grade student named Makoto Kozuka. Kozuka admits to the attacks but believes the world is a medieval-style role playing game where he liberates people possessed by a villain named Gohma. The detectives follow his game-based chronology, with Maniwa adopting an emic point of view and pretending to be a minstrel recording heroic details. Characters appear in different guises, such as Kawazu as a stepped-on frog and Maria as an evil butterfly woman. While Kozuka’s tale matches most attacks, it excludes the case of Tsukiko Sagi. Kozuka then directs the detectives to someone he believes can help him advance the game, whom the detectives suspect is an important witness to that initial attack.
