Nagato shares his history with Naruto, explaining that he will answer questions after revealing how he and Konan became who they are. He recalls two pivotal moments of pain, starting with the night his Rinnegan awakened after witnessing his parents accidentally killed by Leaf Ninja. He then describes meeting Konan and Yahiko, noting that all three resorted to thievery to survive. Following an observation of Hanzo the Salamander battling the Three Sannin, the trio set out to find those three ninja in hopes of being taught ninjutsu. This narrative occurs during the Pain's Assault arc, specifically episode 19 of 22.
