After Kushina gives birth to Naruto, Tobi appears, killing Taji and Biwako while holding the infant hostage to prevent Minato from sealing the Nine Tails. Minato rescues Naruto, but Tobi extracts the beast and controls it with his Sharingan. Minato saves Kushina from the extraction and pursues Tobi, who summons the Nine Tails to attack Konoha. Minato arrives in the village and neutralizes a Tailed Beast Bomb. He then engages Tobi in a teleportation battle, ultimately defeating him with a Rasengan and applying a contract seal to break Tobi's control over the Nine Tails.
