Guren leads twenty-one survivors from the hideout to meet Orochimaru, while Team Kurenai and Kakashi arrive minutes later to find barely alive subjects before escaping the self-destructing lair. Miles away, sixteen survivors refuse further experimentation and attack Guren. When the ninja team arrives, Shino’s insects have suffered the same fate, and Guren with five subjects has departed, leaving the rest crystallized. Meanwhile, Kabuto escorts Yukimaru to their destination. Naruto and Jiraiya reach a hot spring where Naruto seeks a ranged attack. Instead, Jiraiya trains Naruto in synchronizing jutsu, assigning him Gamariki as a partner despite their mutual dislike.
