A banquet honors Duke Galois of the Ichthyan race, who mistreats his servant and insults Sariphi for being human. After she angers him by forgetting details and rejecting wine, Leonhart comforts her with food and a kiss. Sariphi later requests a dance from Galois, but his servant substitutes. The servant explains he was burned by humans for killing them, yet holds no hatred. When Galois threatens the servant with a sword, Sariphi intervenes. The servant catches the blade, revealing he is the true Galois and the impostor is his son, Joz. The ruse tested Sariphi’s character, which she passed. Leonhart spares them and orders continued protection against sea invaders. Finally, Leonhart asks Sariphi for a dance after the guests depart.
