Dainippon TV organizes a cafeteria food competition requiring korokke entries. Mr. Black seeks to understand the rakugo story "Parting From My Children" regarding a divorced couple. Cafeteria chef Aikawa encounters his son Takashi, mirroring the tale. Despite creating flavorful variants, Aikawa follows Yamaoka's advice to submit his standard potato and meat korokke. This simple dish wins against twenty other cafeterias. Takashi persuades his mother to watch the broadcast, where she recognizes Aikawa's dedication and reconciles with him. Observing this family interaction, Black gains the insight needed to perform the rakugo story successfully on stage.
