In the Capital of Thieves, Jing and Kir attempt to steal the Double Mermaid jewels, which are actually living beings. These jewels reside at the summit of a massive tower built by the town's tyrant, a structure that has claimed the lives of many thieves. Jing succeeds in reaching the top by provoking a giant bird into growing wings and carrying him upward. The object of their heist is a jewel formed from the mingled tears of a mother and her daughter.
