Ash's Electrium Z-crystal goes missing, prompting Rotom to launch an investigation. A devoted fan of an Alolan detective TV show, Rotom enlists Pikachu as his assistant to locate the item. During this process, Rotom acquires a new video camera function. Meanwhile, Ash and his classmates are anxious to conceal the loss from Kiawe. As the only other Z-ring wearer, Kiawe is feared to react with anger if he discovers the truth. The group works diligently to keep the secret hidden while Rotom and Pikachu pursue clues to recover the stolen crystal.
