Ranma and Ryoga cooperate to defeat Mikado and Azuza, but their rivalry causes them to fight on a broken rink. Akane intervenes, causing the ice to break and trapping her in the frozen lake. Ranma and Ryoga save her, and she later recovers in an infirmary with her friends and P-Chan. Shampoo infiltrates the room to kill Ranma but fails. He explains his past: after acquiring a Jusenkyo curse, he and Genma wandered China, where Ranma ate Shampoo’s prize feast. This led to a battle where Ranma won, earning a "Kiss of Death" promise from Shampoo. Back at the Tendo Dojo, Shampoo attacks Akane to find Ranma. Ranma defeats her again in his male form, expecting another death threat, but she instead kisses him affectionately, shocking everyone.
