Nagasumi unexpectedly meets celebrity pop idol Lunar Edomae, who accidentally exposes her true mermaid nature to him. In response, Lunar decides to make Nagasumi her eternal slave. He later discovers that she is a childhood friend and rival of Sun. Lunar devises a plan to defeat Sun once and for all. This conflict divides the middle school into opposing factions based on the popularity contest between Sun and Lunar. The narrative focuses on the interpersonal dynamics and the resulting social split within the school environment as these rivalries play out.
