After separating from Sonic and his companions, Knuckles operates independently and conceals himself within a city. He encounters Dr. Eggman, who apologizes for past actions and claims he seeks the Chaos Emeralds to return to his own world. Eggman manipulates Knuckles by asking him to handle Sonic. Subsequently, news spreads regarding the discovery of an unidentified gem. This report is revealed to be a fabricated trap devised by Eggman. Both Knuckles and Sonic’s group fall prey to this deception. Consequently, the misunderstanding leads to a direct confrontation, causing Sonic and Knuckles to engage in combat against each other.
