Kazumi and Noriko return to Earth for their high school graduation, noting that the planet has aged ten years despite their youth. Noriko reunites with friend Kimiko, who now has a daughter. Meanwhile, Earth's forces detect a massive convergence of alien spaceships entering the solar system. Coach devises a strategy to create a miniature black hole around Jupiter 2, requiring Kazumi and Noriko to pilot Gunbuster together to execute the plan. However, Kazumi hesitates due to her feelings for Coach and awareness of his poor health condition.
