Irina trains in an anechoic chamber while Lev resumes his routine. Zirnitra leadership sends Lyudmila Kharlova to inspect cosmonaut candidates, pressured to select six after Arnak announced its astronauts. Lyudmila claims the project is ahead of schedule and privately reminds Lev that Irina is a vampire, not human. Upon finishing her isolation training, Irina successfully completes a solo parachute drop with Lev. During the session, a test rocket reentry module crashes nearby. Korovin explains the rocket reached orbit but malfunctioned, requiring remote detonation. Leadership orders a similar self-destruct mechanism installed in Irina's rocket to prevent enemy capture. Investigating the site, Irina sees a test dog corpse and falls into shock.
