The party prepares for their journey by purchasing equipment, leading Masato to snap at Mamako before quickly apologizing. At Maman Village, the Chief informs Masato that the Empress of Night demands a handsome man, prompting him to seek refuge in a hot spring. Mamako, Porta, and Wise join him, with Wise sharing knowledge about the Empress and accidentally exposing herself. Meanwhile, Shirase reports to the Empress that she has violated numerous rules, resulting in her immediate execution. Wise intends to confront the Empress alone, but Masato attempts to intervene despite being naked. Wise confesses that the Empress is her mother, who forced her into the game and abandoned her after realizing she could exploit her magic for wealth and companionship. Although Wise claims indifference, Mamako hugs her, proving her lingering emotional pain through the unfamiliar comfort of a non-maternal embrace.
