Watanuki brings food to Doumeki’s storeroom, leading to an argument that ends with Watanuki staying to assist with research. An accident reveals a hidden book by Doumeki’s grandfather containing a spell to retrieve an eye stolen by a spider. Before Doumeki can read it, Himawari’s book animates, forming a snake-like creature that consumes the text. Watanuki prevents Doumeki from attacking the entity until Yuuko arrives. She feeds the storeroom’s four mystic wards to the creature, binding it with string, and warns Watanuki to restore his sight soon. Later, the Karatsu-tengu of Ame-warashi ask Watanuki to help free Zashiki-warashi. Watanuki agrees and accompanies the pipe fox to Yuuko’s location to facilitate the rescue.
