Apr 4, 2008Watanuki damages a spider web while cleaning Doumeki’s temple yard, prompting Doumeki to remove it. The next day, Doumeki’s right eye is covered in a web-like substance. Yuuko explains the spider took revenge by stealing his eye, though Watanuki insists the grudge should target him. That night, a strong wind restores Doumeki’s vision. The following morning, Watanuki arrives at school with a bandaged right eye. Doumeki removes the bandage to reveal Watanuki’s eye is blank and blind, angering Doumeki. Later, Watanuki sees Doumeki carrying many old books on reversing spells. Yuuko confirms Doumeki is attempting to lift the spider’s curse himself.

Later, Watanuki gives Doumeki a large bento box but scolds him for failing to express gratitude for the help that restored his sight.

Realizing the spirit keeps the tree alive, they decide to assist her by leading her to Doumeki's temple. They agree to become friends before parting ways. Kohane returns home to face a strained relationship with her mother, who exploits her medium abilities for financial gain.

May 16, 2008Neko-Musume tasks Watanuki with drawing water from a well in exchange for an egg. Watanuki trespasses into a private garden to access the well, where he observes a woman sitting motionless at a high window. Upon returning with Doumeki, the woman remains in the same position. Watanuki determines she is not a spirit because Doumeki can see her with his normal eye. Watanuki makes a pinky promise to Himawari not to overwork himself. During the next water collection, his little finger hurts, and the wrapper of his container is blown into the woman's window. Doumeki and Watanuki enter the silent house and find the woman, who falls inert to the floor in a gust of wind. Watanuki assumes she is a doll, but Doumeki identifies her as a corpse. Watanuki argues that a corpse would have putrefied in the summer heat, yet Doumeki notes that modern preservatives prevent rotting. Meanwhile, Neko-Musume retrieves a dead kitten from the nearly empty well and comments on the miasma around Watanuki's little finger, suggesting something is strange about Himawari.

The next day Himawari taps him on the back and he accidentally falls out of the window at school when a window gives way. While unconscious, he starts to follow his dead parents, but Haruka pulls him back. A messenger from Yuuko takes him to the shop where he eventually regains consciousness. Himawari is there and, before he finishes asking her about the accidents, she reveals that she already knows about them.
