Yugi, Tea, Joey, Tristan, and the Pharaoh meet Marik in Egypt. The Pharaoh presents the Egyptian God cards to a stone tablet, sending his spirit five thousand years into the past to his time as King of Egypt. Simultaneously, Yami Bakura uses the Millennium Puzzle to travel back, aiming to finish a battle from that era. His departure releases the spirits of Rex Raptor, Weevil Underwood, and Mokuba from the Shadow Realm. Yami Bakura takes over the body of his ancient alter ego, Bakura the Thief King, freeing him from guards and chains with the help of his minions. Thief King Bakura then raids the previous Pharaoh's tomb and heads to the royal palace to claim the seven Millennium Items.
