EP 1Yusuke Urameshi dies saving a child and is offered revival by Botan
Oct 10, 1992Narcissistic slacker Yusuke Urameshi dies after being struck by a car while saving a child playing in the street. He later discovers the child would have survived and that the Spirit World did not anticipate his death. Botan, the Guardian of the river Styx, offers him a chance to return to life. Yusuke initially declines the proposal but changes his mind after witnessing the grief of those he believed were indifferent to him. He sees his childhood friend Keiko Yukimura, his mother Atsuko, and his rival Kazuma Kuwabara mourning at his wake. This display of care convinces him to accept the offer and revive.

Kurama intends to sacrifice himself to cure his human mother Shiori, who suffers from a severe illness. Yusuke argues that Kurama’s death would only cause his mother further pain. To prevent this, Yusuke transfers some of his own life force into the mirror, sparing Kurama’s life. Yusuke ultimately claims the mirror, while Kurama feels relieved knowing his mother will survive.

Nov 28, 1992Hiei, the final thief wielding the Shadow Sword, has kidnapped Keiko to obtain the Orb of Baast and the Forlorn Hope from Yusuke. Botan utilizes her spiritual energy to halt the change, while Yusuke realizes he must defeat Hiei to retrieve the antidote sealed within the sword's hilt. Hiei employs the Jagan eye to gain superior perception, making the fight extremely challenging for Yusuke. Kurama intervenes to aid Yusuke in combat and assist Botan in protecting Keiko. Yusuke ultimately defeats Hiei by firing his Spirit Gun off the Forlorn Hope to strike his blind spot. The artifacts are returned to the Spirit World, and Keiko is restored to her normal human state after receiving the antidote.

During this challenge, Yusuke encounters and defeats Baldok the Bat Tamer, a vampire bat-like demon. This sequence highlights the intense competition and the specific dangers Yusuke must overcome to advance in the tournament organized by Koenma.
