Saiunkoku Monogatari

A nation consists of eight provinces, each associated with a distinct color. A newly crowned emperor is known for his disinterest in court affairs and his open preference for male companionship. A woman from a prominent family, facing financial hardship, accepts a position as the emperor's concubine with the goal of guiding him toward effective leadership. A young man, who was adopted by her father, accompanies her as the emperor's personal guard. Upon entering the palace, the woman rekindles her aspiration to become a court official. Alongside various allies she encounters, she presses forward, attempting to resist the emperor's persistent attention.
