Haruka Nanase enjoys swimming and spent time in a club with Makoto Tachibana, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rin Matsuoka during elementary school, winning a tournament before graduating. Afterward, the group went their separate ways. Years later, during high school, Rin returns and challenges Haruka to a swim match, displaying strong ability. Determined to respond, Haruka reunites with Makoto and Nagisa and adds a new member, Rei Ryugazaki, to form the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club with the goal of beating Rin.
