After learning from maid Daphne that previous tutors quit due to Katarina's attitude, Arte visits a Venetian church with her, where she remains unfazed by insults from male apprentices. To connect better, Arte takes Katarina outdoors for games, which Katarina enjoys. Arte learns from Sofia that Katarina was raised by servants and her father Malta favors his sons. Arte also finds out Katarina secretly studies cookery. When Arte protects this secret, Katarina realizes Arte understands her fear of having her passions destroyed, similar to how her mother burned her drawings. Trusting Arte, Katarina agrees to share everything with her over a meal.
