After finishing paperwork, Hisagi and Kira encounter female Soul Reapers who thank Hisagi for providing lunch. Hitsugaya then assigns Hisagi, Rangiku, and Isane to investigate mysterious murders in the Rukongai. While traveling through a field, rain forces Hisagi and Rangiku to seek shelter at a hot springs inn managed by a woman. Rangiku suspects the manager, while Hisagi struggles with his feelings for Rangiku and is tempted to peek when she goes to bathe. When Hisagi opens the door, Rangiku attacks the manager, revealing her to be a Hollow. After defeating the enemy, Rangiku admits she used Hisagi as bait to lure out the Hollow.
