Susanna admits she deceived Candy in Chicago to stop her from meeting Terry, claiming love at first sight. Terry realizes he likes Susanna but loves Candy, whom he met on the boat to Southampton. Meanwhile, Patricia asks for Candy’s help because Alistear wants to volunteer for the war, feeling useless due to his failed inventions. Both Candy and Alistear attempt shock and simulation therapy to make Albert remember, hoping he will intervene in their respective personal matters. The plan fails until Patricia breaks down during a picnic, revealing her daily prayers for Alistear, which helps him understand her feelings. When Mr. Thomas shares his traumatic past regarding the fire that killed his wife and son, Candy realizes forcing Albert to remember could cause severe emotional trauma, suggesting time is the better remedy.
