Ep. 24: L discovers shinigami exist after arresting Higuchi, who is suspected of being Kira in Kanto.

Higuchi is arrested for murders in Kanto, leading L to confirm shinigami existence via his Death Note. Light reclaims the notebook, recalling his identity as Kira, and kills Higuchi using a scrap page. It is revealed that Light inserted a rule requiring owners to write in the book every thirteen days or die. The investigation team finds these rules difficult to exploit. Light then instructs Misa to retrieve a second Death Note he had hidden months prior. To uncover L's true identity, Misa makes a new deal with Ryuk, exchanging her remaining lifespan for the shinigami eyes. This sequence highlights the ongoing tension between the investigators and Light, who continues to manipulate events from the shadows while ensuring the Death Note remains in use to avoid the fatal consequence of the fake rule he established.
