Hyakkimaru and Dororo trek through intense heat until Dororo collapses from heatstroke. Delirious, he recounts his past during the bloody Onin War, which devastated the country with food shortages and banditry. Dororo’s parents, Hibukuro and Ojiya, led a bandit group opposing alliances with samurai. Their son was kidnapped by traitorous lieutenant Itachi, leading to Hibukuro’s arrest and brutal beating. Young Dororo stole the cell keys, enabling his parents’ escape as a windstorm approached. Hibukuro remained behind to cut the magistrate’s house foundations, causing it to collapse and burn, killing everyone inside. Ojiya fled with Dororo but soon encountered Hibukuro’s bandits, who had been taken over by the treacherous Itachi.
