Goku and Vegeta begin a battle marked by astounding raw power, with both fighters displaying incredible ability and the conflict initially appearing to be a draw. Vegeta temporarily immobilizes Goku using energy cuffs attached to a boulder, expressing resentment over losing his royal destiny to Goku for defeating Frieza and achieving Super Saiyan status first, as well as anger at being surpassed in strength by Gohan. Goku breaks free, and the intense combat resumes. In a separate development, Gohan and the Supreme Kai arrive at Buu's ball, only to encounter Babidi and Dabura waiting for them.
