Cooks and Hollingworth travel to Clairmont to listen to a recording of scientist Radcliffe’s diary. The narrative reveals that Cooks' grandfather witnessed the death of Befort's Children in 1901 and found a strange black stone. He gave it to Radcliffe, who used X-rays to find shifting inscriptions. The GED Project investigated, but Radcliffe learned the British government already knew about the Children. These beings are named after a Belgian village, with records dating back to 1489. Radcliffe’s obsession led to his discrediting and death. Meanwhile, the Children regroup at Clairmont. Hasmodai is trapped by past family memories until Agi saves him by returning his memory recording.
