The Children find brief joy upon learning Helga's location, but a nearby explosion interrupts them. Cooks and Hollingsworth discover that a man named Kirchner abducted his sister and destroyed the house using strange blue energy. The group realizes Kirchner has undergone the same transformation as Shinon, a phenomenon linked to OSL emanating from the Zone. They attempt to confront him, but before they can intervene, Phantom GED forces under Duma's jurisdiction shoot Kirchner. His unstable OSL reacts unpredictably, causing him to vanish in a manner similar to Shinon and Grass.
