Twelve-year-old Mitsuki Kouyama suffers from throat sarcoma and refuses life-saving surgery to preserve her singing voice. Her guardian grandmother dislikes music, and doctor Keiichi Wakaoji forbids her from attending a secret Seed Records audition. Two shinigami, Takuto Kira and Meroko Yui, reveal she has one year left to live. Determined to sing before dying, Mitsuki sneaks out but collapses. Takuto transforms her into a healthy sixteen-year-old with yellow hair, allowing her to audition pain-free. The directors immediately select her for the role, fulfilling her dream despite her terminal condition and family opposition.
