EP 40Miaka confronts Tomo’s illusions while Amiboshi fights for freedom and Yui’s memory
Jan 4, 1996Miaka remains confused by the four gods’ constellations until Tomo invites her to study. Tamahome’s master frees him from a cliff-induced illusion. At the library, Miaka recalls a past event with Yui and an old book, but Tomo distracts her with cake and a kiss. When intimacy begins, Miaka remembers the library incident and breaks the illusion, though she stays trapped. Tomo drains his life force to maintain the trap, allowing Amiboshi to escape. Amiboshi empowers Miaka with his flute, enabling her to stab Tomo with a lucky pencil. The shell Shin shatters, freeing Miaka. Amiboshi defends her but falls to Suboshi, who kills Tomo. Amiboshi offers forgetfulness leaves for peace, but Suboshi rejects them, claiming love for Yui, and attacks Miaka using the same method he believes killed her.
EP 41Tamahome and Suzaku Seven rescue Miaka and stay with Tokaki in Sairou
Jan 11, 1996Tamahome, Tasuki, and the Suzaku Seven rescue Miaka from Suboshi, arriving in Sairou to stay with Tokaki. Tamahome kisses Miaka, declaring their love cannot continue, a decision Tokaki supports as their union would never be consummated. Miaka and Chichiri contact Hotohori via magic mirror with an incomplete update. Suboshi returns Amiboshi to Makan Village, while Nakago confesses his love to Yui, which Soi overhears. Xing, Tokaki’s adoptive daughter, shares a legend about a kiss at sunset atop a temple tower ensuring lovers stay together. Miaka helps Xing prepare dinner; despite her poor cooking, Tamahome eats everything after she leaves. Tokaki instructs Xing to help Tamahome forget Miaka, but Miaka enters just as they appear about to kiss.
EP 42Keisuke and Tetsuya investigate the Okuda murder while Miaka faces Nakago in Morioka
Jan 18, 1996Keisuke and Tetsuya reach Morioka and discover the Okuda murder site, known as Genbu Grotto, through a taxi driver’s microfilm records. Meanwhile, Miaka meets Tamahome at a tower linked to Xing’s legend, where she encounters Yui and Nakago. The Suzaku Seven reunite after Tasuki defeats a monster, only to learn from Tokaki and Subaru that Tatara, the Byakko Shinzaho guardian, has been captured. Nakago intercepts Miaka, and Miboshi of the Seiryu Seven steals her voice before knocking her out. The Suzaku Seven pursue her, leading to Miaka waking up in a cell alongside Tatara as Yui arrives.
EP 43Yui locks Miaka away and Tatara confronts Miboshi to retrieve the Byakko relic
Jan 25, 1996Yui forces Miaka to stop fighting, leading her and Tatara out of their cell before presenting Miaka with the Shinzaho of Byakko. She then locks them in a room while Keisuke and Tetsuya meet the aged Priestess of Byakko. Tatara and Miaka escape, with Tatara going ahead to demand the relic back from Yui. Miboshi appears, and Miaka is found by Tamahome, Tasuki, and Chiriko. The Suzaku Seven, Takaki, and Subaru catch up to Tatara, who is taken hostage by Miboshi. Tatara defeats Miboshi using his last strength. The Priestess of Byakko dies as her younger spirit and Tatara’s spirit ascend together. The dying Miboshi possesses Chiriko.
EP 44Miboshi possesses Chiriko while Yui summons Seiryuu with Nakago
Feb 1, 1996Miboshi inhabits Chiriko’s body after his original form perished, using him to attack Miaka and the remaining Suzaku Seven. Chichiri erects a protective barrier, but Miaka steps outside it, leaving her vulnerable. Simultaneously, Yui and Nakago travel to the Seiryuu summoning ceremony after securing two Shinzaho, with Yui promising her third wish for Nakago. Miaka pleads for Chiriko to awaken as Subaru and Tokaki of the Byakko Seven revert to their teenage forms. Tokaki rescues Miaka, and Subaru restores her voice. Chiriko regains control, realizing he must kill himself to defeat Miboshi, and stabs himself with Miboshi’s rattle. He gives Taiitsukun’s scroll to Miaka before dying, while Mitsukake and Tasuki stay with him. Miaka, Tamahome, and Chichiri flee to the ceremony roof, only to find Yui beginning the summoning.
EP 45Yui Summons Seiryuu and the Suzaku Seven Return to Konan
Feb 8, 1996Yui summons Seiryuu, who merges with her and vanishes, creating a shockwave that returns Miaka and the Suzaku Seven to Konan. Yui awakens in Kutou and wishes for Suzaku’s power to be sealed. Miaka learns from Hotohori that she may marry Tamahome now that she is no longer a priestess. Kutou invades, prompting the powerless Suzaku Seven to fight. Meanwhile, Keisuke and Tetsuya discover Genbu Grotto’s origin, while Nakago and Soi view Tomo’s shell, leading to Nakago rejecting Soi’s confession. The Suzaku Seven clash with the Seiryuu Seven but are outmatched. During the battle, Tasuki attacks Nakago, but Soi sacrifices herself to save him. Yui uses her second wish to return herself and Miaka to their original world, where Miaka wakes up at school with Tamahome present.

Keisuke, researching The Universe of the Four Gods with Toki, Priestess of Byakko’s grandson, contacts Tetsuya to reveal the narrative has entered their world, foreshadowing Nakago’s imminent arrival. Upon learning Tamahome returned with Miaka, Yui uses an earring gifted by Nakago to receive his promise of support. Hotohori prepares to personally lead his army against Kutou. Miaka, Tamahome, and Keisuke proceed to meet Tetsuya, who retains possession of The Universe of the Four Gods.
EP 47Tamahome Questions His Existence While Mitsukake Sacrifices Himself
Feb 22, 1996Keisuke, Miaka, and Tamahome wait for Tetsuya when Keisuke observes Tamahome lacks a shadow. He warns Miaka that Tamahome cannot re-enter the book, and Tamahome soon notices his own lack of reflection. Overhearing them claim he is not real, Tamahome flees. Miaka searches for him but encounters Yui and Suboshi, who chase her away. Meanwhile, Mitsukake sacrifices his life to save a baby and heal wounded soldiers on both sides. Tamahome witnesses a romance film scene, recalling his promise to stay with Miaka. Suboshi eventually catches Miaka, but Tamahome arrives to declare he belongs to her because she created his world by reading The Universe of the Four Gods.

Meanwhile, Nakago reveals to Hotohori that the war serves as a distraction while he turns Kutou's armies against themselves to eventually conquer Miaka's world. Hotohori charges Nakago, enduring a powerful life energy attack to deliver a fatal stab wound. Hotohori succumbs to his injuries after warning Miaka that he could not stop "him." Keisuke hands Miaka the book, allowing her to speak with the dying Hotohori before he passes away. Finally, Keisuke requests that Tamahome return into the book alone.
EP 49Tamahome proposes a wedding to Miaka while Nakago threatens Yui and kills the Emperor
Mar 7, 1996Keisuke reveals to Miaka that summoning a beast god requires a sacrifice. After Miaka informs Yui that Suboshi is dead, they plan to attend school. Keisuke urges Tamahome to return to the Universe of the Four Gods. Miaka shares Nakago’s deceit with Yui and provides a letter from Okuda detailing the beast gods. Yui discovers scales on her arm and flees. Meanwhile, Nakago murders the Emperor of Kutou and orders the execution of his family and government. Miaka intercepts Tamahome as he prepares to leave, begging him to stay. Tamahome proposes a wedding ceremony, which they perform. Nakago then confronts Yui, who confirms Miaka’s warnings and runs. Tamahome finds Yui, but Nakago arrives, revealing his conquest plans. Tamahome claims they are characters in a book, but Nakago overpowers him in their fight.

Using a bag left at the book, Keisuke summons Tasuki and Chichiri from the real world to rescue Miaka. As Yui prepares to use her final wish, Seiryuu appears in beast form and Yui vanishes. Nakago advances on Miaka, who is knocked unconscious by his attack. Just as he moves to kill her, Tasuki and Chichiri appear to intervene. Yui then reappears to the unconscious Miaka, concluding the confrontation with the arrival of reinforcements.
EP 51Tasuki and Chichiri return to Miaka's world to help her summon Suzaku against Nakago.
Mar 21, 1996Tasuki and Chichiri enter Miaka's world via her backpack to protect her. Meanwhile, Miaka has a serious conversation with Yui in a dream. Tasuki and Chichiri, having lost their powers, plan to join their companions in heaven after killing Nakago. Miaka recites the spell to summon Suzaku, revealing Yui's third wish allows this summoning. Tasuki and Chichiri regain their powers. Miaka uses her first wish to restore Yui from Seiryu, causing Suzaku to begin devouring her. Although Nakago remains a threat, Nuriko, Hotohori, Mitsukake, and Chiriko arrive to save Miaka through the power of friendship. A daydream depicts a wedding between Miaka and Tamahome. Tamahome speaks with his father, who encourages his return. Tamahome appears, initiating the final battle against Nakago.
EP 52Tamahome defeats Nakago in their final battle, leading to Miaka's wish for peace and a reunion.
Mar 28, 1996Tamahome faces Nakago in their ultimate confrontation. Despite Suzaku restoring his powers, Tamahome remains weaker than his opponent. Miaka and the Celestial Warriors attempt to channel their energy to him, but this proves inadequate. As a final measure, Miaka uses Suzaku’s power to seal Seiryuu, stripping Nakago of his abilities. Tamahome then pierces Nakago’s chest, ending the fight. Defeated, Nakago recounts his tragic history and quest for vengeance. The group encourages Miaka to use her last wish to remain with Tamahome, but she chooses to restore peace to her world instead. Tamahome accepts this decision. After a tearful farewell and a final kiss, the worlds separate. Miaka later finds a letter from Tamahome promising to love her across time and space. Eventually, she and Yui pass their high school entrance exams. During a school day, Keisuke introduces them to a young man wearing Tamahome’s wedding ring, revealing his identity. Miaka weeps with joy as the story concludes.
