EP 1Samurai and shinobi transported to ruined Tokyo after storm
Jul 15, 2020Samurai Sensui Kanzaki and shinobi Kenroku Sanada are exiled by boat during the Tokugawa period in Edo. A fierce storm transports them forward in time to a devastated, ruined Tokyo. They witness a man transform into a monster and attack them. Kathleen Funada and the old man Maeda rescue them, bringing them to a compound of surviving humans. Inside, she and Dr. Yoshinaga explain that the monsters result from the Gibia virus, which has infected humans worldwide. The survivors must now navigate this new reality while dealing with the threat of the infected creatures that roam the destroyed city.
EP 2Sensui and Kenroku adapt to community life while defending against a sudden Gibia assault.
Jul 22, 2020Sensui and Kenroku attempt to integrate into their new community. Old man Maeda brings a samurai sword to Sensui but is followed by Gibia. After repelling the initial attackers, spotlights fail and a serious Gibia assault begins. Maeda is wounded and captured but rescued by Sensui, who uses the sword to destroy the creatures. As more Gibia breach defenses and attack residents, Kenroku fights using wire and later hand grenades. Survivors prepare to depart, and Maeda requests Kenroku kill him before his wounds turn him into a monster. Two unknown men watch the group leave, discussing their own plan to find a new food source outside the city.
EP 3Survivors flee Gibia attack while a monk aids escape and a soldier mutates.
Jul 29, 2020After the Gibia assault, seven survivors intend to travel to Niigata and board a vessel for mainland Asia. Dr. Yoshinaga leads a team to retrieve vaccine research, but they discover an unconscious man on a nearby rooftop upon reaching their helicopter. Yoshinaga pilots the aircraft to investigate, only for Meteora, a massive female Gibia, to emit supersonic waves that destabilize the craft. Meteora then extends appendages from its mouth to seize the helicopter. Kenroku and Sensui attempt to free the vehicle but fail, prompting Sensui to attack the creature with his sword. Meanwhile, the unconscious man, identified as the large monk Yukinojyo Onikura, awakens and assists the team in jumping to safety. During the chaos, soldier Brian is injured by Meteora. Sensui cannot defeat the monster, so Kenroku crashes the helicopter into it before escaping. Later, while Yoshinaga treats Brian, the soldier transforms into a Gibia.
EP 4Survivors escape Gibia attack while Kenroku recalls past exile with Sensui
Aug 5, 2020Adam kills the Gibia formerly known as Brian, allowing the group to split for supplies. Yurika discovers Sensui’s katana Suigetsumaru and western sword Halbert, while Yukinojyo retrieves his spiked club Douzan. Lizard-like Gibia attack, forcing Sensui, Kenroku, and Yukinojyo to fight through monsters to reach a camper van. The six survivors escape, though Sensui is exhausted. Kenroku recounts meeting Sensui during the Battle of Sekigahara when they were exiled together despite opposing sides. Back in the present, the van blows a tire, attracting nearby Gibia that advance toward the stranded vehicle.
EP 5Kenroku and Yukinojyo face Gibia while Adam sacrifices himself with C-4 explosives to save the group.
Aug 12, 2020Kenroku and Yukinojyo defend against flying Gibia as other monsters approach a damaged van. Adam, knowing his wound will transform him, detonates C-4 to kill the creatures and himself. During their escape, Kenroku mocks Yukinojyo’s lack of romantic experience and suggests he marry Yurika. This provokes Yukinojyo to recall the Ishiyama Hongan-ji War and the solitary death of his master, Douzan, before his time travel. The group rests at a gas station where Kathleen is abducted by escaped convicts known as the Galients. Their leader, Renjiro Hatonami, challenges Sensui to a duel but is swiftly disarmed, forcing the group to retreat. Later, Yoshinaga drives the van into a dark tunnel blocked by wrecked cars and Gibia. The warriors exit to fight, but Kathleen falls while throwing grenades and is menaced by a Gibia.
EP 6Renjiro Hatonami recalls his survival while Kathleen is saved by Ayame
Aug 19, 2020Renjiro Hatonami remembers surviving the Gibia pandemic in jail. Kathleen faces a Gibia threat, but Ayame, a former policewoman, rescues her. Fainting, Kathleen recalls her childhood and her father's death. After the Gibia in the tunnel are killed, Kathleen invites Ayame to join her group, which Ayame accepts. Hatonami's band, the Galients, watches from afar. Kathleen's group reaches an onsen to relax. Sensui remembers his parents' death, the Kanzaki clan's destruction, his adoption by Halbert, and Halbert's death from illness. This occurred when the Shimazu clan invaded Kuushuu to attack the Outomo clan. Outomo was aided by Sensui's later master, Jouzen Matsumoto, who gave him the katana Suigetsumaru. As they leave in their van, the group realizes they are followed by the Galients, and Ayame recognizes her father.
EP 7Galients face Meteora Gibia and lizard Gibia while Ayame fights to save her father and group
Aug 26, 2020The Galients attempt to halt Kathleen's van but are blocked by Meteora Gibia, who shifts from human form to an armored beast. Sensui, Kenroku, and Yukinojyo fail to stop the creature until Ayame drives an abandoned vehicle off a bridge, washing it away. Sensui collapses from prior wounds as Ayame urges her father to cease hostilities and join the fight against the Gibia. The group later seeks refuge at a food factory, only to find lizard Gibia present. Ayame uses her tonfa to defeat them, allowing the group to enter and rest. However, Yurika is stabbed by the stinger of a dying Gibia, complicating their situation.
EP 8Yurika injured by Gibia stinger while Kathleen finds mother's letter and Yukinojyo confronts monsters
Sep 2, 2020Yurika suffers a foot wound from a Gibia stinger, though Dr. Yoshinaga hopes the venom sac is empty. As Sensui rests with a fever, Yurika departs the facility. Kathleen discovers a letter from her mother promising to return if she does not transform into a Gibia. Ayame and Kenroku leave to gather medical supplies from another store, where they encounter and defeat several lizard-type Gibia. Meanwhile, a large group of Gibia surrounds the food factory. Yukinojyo goes outside alone to confront them, locking Kathleen, Dr. Yoshinaga, and Sensui inside the building for their safety.
EP 9Ayame and Kenroku find dead Gibia while Mikimoto's group destroys a nest under a red moon
Sep 9, 2020Ayame and Kenroku return from gathering supplies to discover many dead Gibia, including Yurika's mother who had transformed into a Gibia, and Yukinojyo who died protecting Kathleen. Meanwhile, the Galients' van breaks down, and while Mikimoto, Hamuro and Sakuma are searching for food in a warehouse, they find a nest of Gibia. To avoid being attacked after nightfall, they destroy the Gibia with fire and explosives. Dr. Yoshinaga suggests that their group check out a nearby Gibia Virus Treatment Research Center to see if they can make use of any research they may find. That night, under a red moon, Kenroku recalls the past - his friend Shion who taught him how to use the kusarigama and who died on the night of a red moon.
EP 10New Allies join forces to clear Gibia infestation while Dr. Yoshinaga continues vaccine research.
Sep 16, 2020Dr. Yoshinaga and his group reach the Gibia Virus Treatment Research Center, discovering it overrun by Gibia. Just as they prepare for battle, Renjiro Hatonami and his Galients intervene, attacking the creatures in gratitude for previous assistance. The two factions collaborate to eliminate the Gibia threat in the area. Following the victory, they share a meal and formally establish an alliance against the Gibia. During this time, Renjiro works on reconciling with his daughter, Ayame, while Dr. Yoshinaga persists with his vaccine research. The episode concludes with the emergence of the Meteora Gibia from the nearby bay.
EP 11Meteora Gibia attacks Dr. Yoshinaga while he works on the vaccine
Sep 23, 2020The humanoid Meteora Gibia pursues human survivors until Kenroku and Sensui fail to stop it. Kenroku uses explosives to kill Meteora, but Dr. Yoshinaga reveals he is an alien and explains the Gibia virus's origin. He then infects Ayame and himself with the virus. Ayame transforms into a Gibia and kills Hamuro, Mikimoto, Sakuma, and Soshigaya, who dies protecting Hatonami. Sensui and Kenroku defeat the Ayame Gibia, yet Yoshinaga remains alive and continues his transformation into a monster.
EP 12Yoshinaga's Gibia Transformation and Sensui's Final Stand Against the Horde
Sep 30, 2020Yoshinaga transforms into a Gibia similar to Meteora but retains his consciousness. Kenroku and then Sensui try to stop him, but he is to fast and his skin is too tough to penetrate, causing Sensui to break his katana. Yoshinaga continues to transform and becomes a flying Gibia similar to the one Ayame did. Yoshinaga explains how the three warriors from the past came to the present through pieces of his spaceship falling to Earth. Hatonami gives Sensui his katana, and then attacks Yoshinaga, sacrificing himself, but exploding multiple sticks of dynamite attached to his body. This severely damages Yoshinaga and Sensui finishes of Yoshinaga by severing his head. Kenroku and Kathleen then board a boat to leave for the Asian mainland, but Sensui refuses to join them after revealing that he was wounded by Yoshinaga and may become a Gibia. Kathleen hands Sensui a tracking beacon in case he survives as a human, and he turns back to attack the hordes of Gibia approaching the port.
