Paul von Oberstein, chief of staff of the Iserlohn fleet, faces trouble after his commander ignored his warning about Yang's plan and fled before the fleet's destruction. The three chiefs of the Imperial fleet resign but attempt to blame Oberstein for the defeat. Oberstein meets Reinhard, explaining that he shares Reinhard's hatred for the high nobles and the Goldenbaum dynasty, and offers his assistance. Reinhard accepts this help and secures Oberstein's pardon by advising the Emperor to refuse the chiefs' resignations.
