On a festival day, Gintoki and his companions visit temple grounds despite Kagura’s desire to celebrate. They arrive to cover a shift for Ochi, a man dressed as a fallen samurai with an arrow in his head who runs the local haunted house. Ochi shares his backstory of being unappreciated, downsized, and abandoned by his wife, revealing that running the haunted house is his sole purpose for living. Moved by his plight, Gintoki and the others feel concerned for him and attempt to offer their assistance, leading to an uncertain outcome.
