Civil unrest erupts in Lior as Envy uses shape-shifting to impersonate Cornello. The Elrics locate Marcoh, who explains the philosopher's stone's role in the Ishbal rebellion before disappearing. Soldiers led by Grand seize Marcoh’s research and arrest him, leaving the brothers behind. Scar arrives, kills Grand, and targets Marcoh. The Elrics and Marcoh flee into a tunnel to escape. They are rescued by Major Alex Louis Armstrong, known as the Strong Arm Alchemist, allowing them to avoid capture and further danger from Scar’s pursuit.
