Ed is recovering from injuries sustained in the laboratory when Ross reprimands him for nearly dying. Because his automail requires repair, Ed summons Winry to Central City. Upon her arrival at the train station, Alphonse remains preoccupied with thoughts regarding Barry’s previous revelations. When the brothers decline to explain their recent experiences to Winry, she departs in anger and is persuaded by Hughes to attend his daughter’s birthday celebration. Hughes advises her that men often conceal information to protect others from worry. Subsequently, Alphonse resolves to confront Edward, questioning whether he truly possesses an artificial soul.
