Edward and Alphonse Elric visit alchemist Majhal after finding his name in their father’s letters. Villager Clause claims a zombie murdered her sister and begs for revenge, though Ed doubts the story. Majhal reveals the zombie is his former lover Karin, who supposedly died years ago. The brothers uncover that Majhal has kidnapped village girls to attach their souls to mannequins resembling Karin, targeting Clause next. They learn Karin survived but lost her memory and aged. When she returns, Majhal rejects her true form due to his obsession. He attacks Ed, but his weapon accidentally kills him. Clause resumes her feminine appearance, and the brothers depart for Central.
