Izumi, Miki, and Risa join them to assist with the gift hunt. Hinagiku discovers the situation, prompting Hayate to explain his financial inability to support a girlfriend and his reluctance to date after revealing details about a kindergarten ex-girlfriend from ten years ago. Later, Hayate questions Maria about her birthday, causing her to evade the answer. He apologizes for being tactless and learns she was abandoned by her parents, never knowing her birth date or true name, though her birthday is recorded as December 24, the day she was found. Athena Tennousu makes a cameo appearance.
