Ep. 8: Club members infiltrate rival school while Yuta shares their nonbinary identity with Maki.

After Nao’s mother complains to the principal, club activities are suspended for a week. To prepare for their first summer tournament opponent, Hatanouka Middle School, the club scouts their ace, Joy Kusakabe. Since observers are forbidden, Yuta suggests infiltrating the crowd of girls outside the courts. Yuta and Maki dress as girls, and Yuta confides in Maki that they identify as nonbinary. Maki advises Yuta not to feel pressured to label themselves, sharing a story about her mother’s FTM friend, Shou. Yuta mentions their older sisters call them Yu, so Maki adopts that name. On the way, they encounter Takuto Murakami, who quit soft tennis for basketball and attempts to hit on Maki and Yu. At Hatanouka, Kanako distracts the spectators, allowing Maki and Yu to videotape the team. Reviewing the footage, the club realizes they must change their attitude to compete. Kanako also meets the club advisor and art teacher, showing him her drawings and explaining that her parents do not view art as a worthwhile profession. Club activities resume with a practice match between the girls and boys teams.
