This segment initiates a flashback sequence where Kaede observes Kikyo and Tsubaki battling a demon swarm. Within a limestone cave, Midoriko’s grave reacts to the Shikon Jewel located inside a slain yet resurrected Mistress Centipede. Subsequently, Tsubaki places a curse on Kikyo to activate whenever she falls deeply in love. Kikyo assumes the duty to guard and purify the Shikon Jewel at the village shrine. Upon meeting Inuyasha, she discovers his desire to use the jewel to transform from a hanyō into a full-blooded yōkai. They gradually develop mutual affection, grateful for their unconditional support. Inuyasha gifts Kikyo a pearl oyster containing cosmetics that once belonged to his human mother.
