This segment continues a memory flashback where the bandit Onigumo hides in a cave, seeking the Shikon Jewel. Tsubaki attacks Kikyo with a curse, which she successfully reflects. Subsequently, Onigumo is consumed by demons and transforms into Naraku. Naraku then assaults Kikyo, prompting Inuyasha to intervene and save her. Inuyasha expresses his desire to become human to stay with Kikyo forever. Naraku deceives them by impersonating both Inuyasha and Kikyo, causing discord and tainting the Shikon Jewel. He mortally wounds Kikyo, who, before dying, seals Inuyasha to the Sacred Tree of Ages.
