After filming, Reika Hayami and manager Yasuyuki Yasuoga are abducted by the Puppet Clown, who demands ransom from director Youko Kafuraki. The note requires Hajime Kindaichi to deliver the funds, but Kafuraki refuses payment. Veteran actress Reiko Mitamura steps in to pay instead. Inspector Isamu Kenmochi arrives in disguise at Kafuraki's request. Hajime is instructed to bring the money to a phone booth at Nakahara Station, but upon arrival, he receives a call with a cryptic message directing him to the next location.
