Yousuke Itsuki discovers Touno Eiji, presumed dead since the Nagano Lake incident in Episode 4, is alive and collaborating with Shimon Madarame. Madarame, who resurrects extinct butterflies, plans an exhibition in Kanazawa. The group visits Madarame’s Butterfly Manor, meeting Hajime Kindaichi’s relatives Heiske and Fumi. Madarame’s daughters, Tateha, Ageha, and Ruri, host a party where Ruri spots a black butterfly on the wall. During the release of luminous butterflies, Hajime encounters a man named Miyama who resembles Touno. The following day, a purple butterfly matching Ruri’s kimono design is found pinned to a tree. Hajime discovers Ruri’s body in the butterfly’s grave, prompting Officer Inokawa to begin the murder investigation.
