Following Kato's death, Hajime investigates the evidence and confronts Shiina at the church, where Shiina intends to destroy the building despite being alive. Hajime reveals that Shiina orchestrated a fake hanging and confesses to betraying his friend Ebisawa. Shiina explains that he joined the bullying to avoid becoming a target himself, fearing Morimura and Shiina would have harassed him otherwise. As Shiina prepares to end his life, Yuri persuades him to survive and reunite with Ebisawa once he has recovered.
