Hajime Investigates Serial Murders Linked to Tachibana's Manuscript Code
Oct 27, 1997Hajime suspects Kon Omura of Hiyaku Publishing holds Tachibana's manuscript, but Omura is murdered with a golf club after directing Hajime to Wataru Tokito. Hajime follows Tokito to a construction site, where Tokito is killed by falling steel beams after pointing Hajime toward Katsura. While evading police led by Superintendent Akechi, Hajime finds shelter with newscaster Tetsuo Tsuzuki. He questions manga writer Ohei Katsura, who directs him to Nonaka Tomomi before Katsura is stabbed and killed. Suspected again, Hajime realizes Tachibana's individual messages to publishers may form a code, while his friends continue to support him.

Hajime Fakes His Death to Expose the Real Killer in Karuizawa
Nov 3, 1997Wanted for four murders, Hajime hides with cameraman Kiyonori Hariu, who provides photos and villa blueprints. After escaping Inspector Shigeru Nagashima by jumping into a river, Hajime is sheltered by Aoi Hanamura. He finds Nonaka at Yunosawa Hotel, realizing it is a trap set by Akechi and Nagashima. Hajime warns Nonaka, but she is later stabbed and killed. Desperate, Hajime takes a hostage, prompting Akechi to shoot him. In the ambulance, Hajime reveals he used tomato juice to simulate blood and requested a blank bullet to survive. The group then travels to Tachibana's villa to review the evidence and identify the true culprit.

The code relied on party invitee names, while footprints in the mud were avoided through a specific method. Hajime identifies Tetsuo Tsuzuki as the murderer of Goryu Tachibana, Kon Omura, Wataru Tokito, Ohei Katsura, and Nonaka Tomomi. Tsuzuki confesses to saving his 10-year-old daughter Mizuho, who suffers from kidney failure, after a failed transplant. Desperate, he smuggled organs for a crime boss, but Tachibana threatened exposure. Tsuzuki then commits suicide by stabbing himself, requesting his remaining kidney be donated to Mizuho.

Nov 17, 1997Inspector Kenmochi, Hajime, and Myuki travel to Okinawa on the Cobalt Marine, a cargo freighter. Captain Kozo Takamori receives a letter from a Ghost Captain claiming a death cruise has started, and he accuses Navigator Mikihiko Wakaouji. Hajime finds Second Mate Joji Mizuzaki and crew member Yoko Katori involved romantically. Although Captain Takamori seems to vanish, he is later seen eating breakfast in his locked room. Reporter Yoshikazu Akai compares the situation to the Mary Celeste. The crew discovers destroyed communications equipment. Hajime calculates the time the suspect left the captain's room and checks alibis, but the results remain inconclusive.

Nov 24, 1997Kenmochi learns that Captain Takamori and Navigator Wakaouji previously commanded the Oriental cruise ship that sank three years prior after colliding with an oil tanker. Despite their rivalry, the disaster ended both their careers. Wakaouji is subsequently poisoned and his body is thrown overboard. Investigators discover a Morse code suicide note claiming he has terminal cancer and murdered Takamori and Mizuzaki. However, upon reaching the wheelhouse, they find Kanou dead from poison on the steering wheel, while Mizuzaki had slept in. Meanwhile, passenger Yu Tokihara attempts suicide by jumping into the sea, sending regards to Captain Ghost, but Hajime dives in to rescue her.

Mizuzaki Saves Hajime and Tokihara From the Water Before Ship Control Dispute
Dec 1, 1997Mizuzaki rescues Hajime and Tokihara from the water and seizes command of the vessel. The group lands on an island to find assistance, where reporter Yoshikazu Akai is separated from the group. He believes he spots the captain but is deceived and pushed off a cliff to his death. Upon returning to the ship, Hajime examines the evidence and identifies Chief Engineer Kentaro Otsuki as the murderer. Otsuki takes Mizuzaki hostage in the wheelhouse just as an alarm sounds because the ship is drifting toward a reef. The vessel is diverted at the last moment, indicating that another person possesses the ability to control the ship.

Dec 8, 1997Hajime identifies Yoko Katori as the killer, claiming Kentaro Otsuki’s actions were a setup to reveal her guilt. He asserts that Takamori, Wakaouji, Kanou, and Akai conspired to sink the Orient, linking Katori and Yu Tokihara to the victims. Tokihara admits seeking revenge against Wakaouji for endangering her husband, but stops killing after his apparent suicide. Katori defends her father, the tanker captain, against Akai’s article blaming him for drunkenness. Hajime deduces Yoko’s method, but Mizuzaki interrupts to confess he caused the collision by partying with Wakaouji. The others lied to protect their careers by blaming the captain. Yoko is arrested, clearing her father’s name. Mizuzaki and Yoko remain in love, and he vows to marry her upon her release.

Hajime Investigates Ski Club Assault Involving Frozen Towels and Sabotaged Equipment
Dec 15, 1997Hajime and Miyuke participate in special training with the Fudoh Ski Club despite Hajime’s poor skiing skills. Later, Hajime discovers Shiramine buried in snow with minor injuries. CCTV reveals an attacker using a ski cover, but Hajime deduces frozen towels were the actual weapon since skis are locked. Accusing Emi Suzumori based on footage and her behavior, Hajime confronts her. She admits to the attack, claiming Shiramine sabotaged Shibusawa’s skis, causing his accident. Shibusawa then wakes from a coma to clarify he adjusted his own skis, absolving Shiramine. The Fudoh Ski Club wins the competition, succeeding without Hajime, who remains unable to ski.
