Ep. 10: Mirai reveals her true nature to Akihito while explaining her mission to kill the Beyond the Boundary youmu.

A flashback depicts Izumi summoning Mirai to Nagatsuki City to eliminate the Beyond the Boundary youmu within Akihito Kanbara before the Society of the Spirit World Warriors intervenes. Mirai transfers to Nagatsuki High but fails to kill Akihito repeatedly, growing closer to him despite Izumi’s warnings to remain emotionally detached. During the Hollow Shadow incident, Mirai comprehends Akihito’s suffering and declares her refusal to kill him during the lantern festival. Izumi subsequently utilizes her freezing barrier to draw the youmu out during the Calm, deceiving Mirai into believing self-sacrifice is the only way to save Akihito. In the present, Mirai explains to Akihito that she exists via his blood and is merely a fragment of his dream while he remains unconscious. She reveals she drew the youmu into herself to protect him before vanishing. After kissing Akihito, the dream ends, leaving him in shock as Mirai proceeds toward the Beyond the Boundary’s core in the Mirror World.
