Keaton examines the death of Liddy Wain, whose nephew Thomas Little is the primary suspect. Jerry Burnham insists on Thomas's innocence and presents evidence suggesting Liddy had a secret lover, including a specific perfume and a bathrobe with initials "W.G." Keaton identifies a man wearing a family crest watch who buys tree lupins. This leads to politician Walter Goldman, whose wife Doris tries to bribe Keaton and Burnham to silence them. Walter admits to Keaton that he was Liddy's lover but married Doris for his career. Keaton and Burnham stage a blackmail attempt at a bridge, causing a car to crash into the water. Keaton rescues Doris, who then confesses to the murder. Burnham reveals that both Liddy and Doris wore the same perfume.
